Ever wanted to do something, but didn’t have the money for it? You likely tried doing it yourself or ended up hiring a professional in the long run. The thing is, with no budget or an unrealistic budget – the results are often sub par. This relates to everything from home renovations to creating a website or buying a house. In the longterm, you’re going to likely have to redo it or you’re not going to be happy with the results and will incur added costs.
Let’s take a website for example. Pricing is a struggle for many business owners but it’s also a major factor for all consumers. Truth is, you aren’t going to get top quality on a tight budget. You might get the initial design done but chances are you didn’t have excellent project management, you didn’t get any SEO strategy, you had to do your own content writing and you were stuck picking from stock imagery. While that’s common, it shouldn’t be.
Budgets don’t have to be huge but it should be realistic. Most often, when you are getting pricing on something you are unfamiliar with – you’re not going to have a clue how to budget for it. Think of a car repair, can anyone (that isn’t a mechanic, or close to one) give me a quote for tire replacement, new brake pads and an oil change? Likely not, you’re going to want to discuss the quality of tire, how much driving is being done, what brand of oil to use – a ton of factors! That’s no different than a renovation or a website. Get quotes – then save the money up! If you already have the funds, remember that the cheapest and lowest price is likely going to mean added costs in the near future.. that could be a month or a year later.
When we’re talking business, remember a business is an investment. It is going to require some spending just like your diploma, degree or new house.
Lastly, be transparent about your budget! People are in all sorts of different circumstances and no one is going to judge your budget – just as long as you’re not judging their pricing.
