First off, congrats on reading this! I mean, you’re showing an interest in learning a new skill! Plus if you’re ready to run paid ads then you’re ready to invest in your business which is awesome.
I don’t want to overload you with information but I do want to share some basic tips and information for anyone looking to run ads on Facebook, Messenger and/or Instagram.
If you’re just getting started with paid social, I recommend you stick to Boosted Posts on Instagram and Facebook for now. This will let you put some money behind your existing posts.
What is a boosted post?
A boosted post is a post that you’ve already shared that you can put some money behind. This lets you boost the post to an audience of your choosing, you can pick a custom audience or let Facebook automatically target people like your followers. This is the simplest way to advertise on Facebook or Instagram.
What makes Facebook Ads different?
Well for one, boosted posts are not created in Ads Manager. Therefore, you don’t get access to more customization features. In Ads Manager you can:
- Set up a new ad campaign across Facebook, Messenger and Instagram
- Set specific target audiences for your campaigns
- Have a look at and optimize your campaigns
- View real-time reports and information for your ads.
Something that some people find confusing is the difference between a campaign, an ad set and an ad. On Facebook, the campaign allows you to pick your buying type and objective. The ad set lets you set your budget, the duration, your demographic and placement. The ad is more specific on the format.
Each ad set can feature several ads that include different creative, destination links or text. A campaign corresponds to your objective of the ad such as driving link clicks or landing page views. Two different things!
If you are ready to pay to play and want to use Ads Manager, I’ve got some tips for you! First off, use the Dynamic Creative feature. By enabling Dynamic Creative you can let Facebook do more of the thinking for you! Essentially you can add up to 5 different images/videos, 5 different primary text, 5 different headlines and 5 different descriptions.
The Facebook gods will automatically generate different combinations from the content you provide and optimize it. These variations could include different formats, as well as copy and creative combinations. 10/10 recommend! This will let you learn what creative and what copy is resonating best.
Well, I hope that wasn’t overwhelming and that you learned something! If that went in one ear and out the other, reach out! I can help.
