Since coming across the Ancestry DNA service, I have been super interested to know what my ethnic breakdown was like. My family always vaguely said that we have family from England, saying we were Irish, Welsh and more. Well, they were right but it was neat to get a break down of where I was from. Seeing Great Britain with 45% was kind of cool, but really how does that break down?
So yeah, my results were pretty much exactly what my family had told me but at least this was I knew which were more dominant and how it really broke down. What’s really cool is that I then exported the raw data from Ancestry.ca and imported to another service, promethease.com. Here I got some really cool information in regards to health, etc. Just some of the details that I got out of this were things such as the likelihood of being lactose intolerant, or details on mental health, how I react to medicine and even how I respond to alcohol, caffeine and so much more!
There are a few different companies that offer these type of services too. I would check out 23andme.com only because it does health & ancestry services. Whereas Ancestry is more focused on the family tree and well, ancestry!
