Guys! I attended my first ever blogger event! I have been invited to a couple but this is the first one I could finally make. Last night was the fourth year that students and faculty at Durham College unite together and prepare their wonderful Harvest Dinner. Before dinner, about 150+ of us were outside enjoying the autumn weather while listening to live music, sampling wine and craft beer. Guests were picking away at hors d’oeuvres including crostini, smoked meat, cheese and veggies that were grown right at the W. Galen Weston Centre for Food before the big meal!
My guest and I were welcomed with name tags set in rounds of birch and asked to pick a spot at the big harvest table. It was a really unique experience to sit down with a big group of new faces and to get to know one another. It was refreshing to connect with strangers and to share a meal like that. It felt great to come together as a community and enjoy a meal that had so many local ingredients from the harvest season.
The menu featured marvellous fresh food that was grown and harvested on campus by DC culinary students. The food was then cooked and prepared by culinary students and then served family style by DC students in hospitality and events programs.
Dessert was served in the CFF Atrium while coffee and tea. I can’t not talk about the favours they gave out! Each table setting had a tiny jar of honey that was also harvested on campus by DC students. Needless to say, I super happy to have been gifted a sample of the first ever batch of honey from the DC bees and now want to pick up a jar for myself from the Pantry!
