Monstera plants are one of my favourites! I picked up my first one from my local plant lovers: Chez Fleur. Chez Fleur sells super cute planters and air plants. Two boss babes create these little babes and sell them through social media & at pop up markets. Mel & Martina are the ladies behind Chez Fleur and both have their own businesses on the side. Mel is the founder of Picks & Giggles and Martina is a freelance photographer with her own business. We partnered together on a photoshoot this weekend and I can’t wait to share some more photos!
Of course, my monstera was part of the shoot! Also known as a swiss cheese plant, these funky little plants produce split leaves that make for a trendy and very sought after house plant. In their natural habitat, a Monstera can grow to be huge with some leaves hitting nearly two feet wide. People are attracted to the dark green, shiny leaves. You can keep yours looking healthy & vibrant by cleaning the leaves gently with a damp paper towel or cloth.
The overview of caring for a monstera:
Water: Water your monstera every seven days or whenever the top 1 inch of soil feels dry. Be sure to allow it to drain completely and reduce watering in the winter to prevent over watering.
Fertilizer: Every two months, give a shot of fertilizer every 60 days.
Sunlight: Some indirect sunlight is best. Harsh, direct exposure to sun needs to be avoided as it will scorch the leaves. A nice bright spot is best.
If you’re not getting any new split leaves, it’s like that the plant doesn’t have ideal conditions. Check in with the amount of light and water your plant is getting. Your plant will only develop holes on its more mature leaves, so sometimes you just have to exercise patience.
