Building your brand takes time and isn’t going to happen overnight! It takes consistency, hard work, money, a variety of resources and ambition. One key way to build your brand is with storytelling. It humanizes your brand. It’s a way to create content that is relatable and that entices your audience. Use storytelling to get your audience to read a little more, scroll a little more and click a little more.
Why you’re in business
What are you doing and why? What was your final straw? Why did you leave your 9-5 and launch something new? There was a moment when you were ready to take that leap. At what point did the bigger picture drive you to hustle and start working for the man (woman) — YOU!
What sets you apart
Okay cool, you have a business. Why would I buy from you and not from the other person in town? If you want to stand out, you need to know what sets you apart. What are you doing differently that your competitors aren’t? Share that story! It could be your process, your experience, or your fresh take on something.
A Critical problem, solved
As a business owner, we put out fires! We help clients, we bend backward and we make exceptions. Share that! The biggest thing to keep in mind is that your story should be about the conflict that you had a solution for. The story isn’t about you, don’t look for praise for doing it.
Your resources/tools
No one is doing it alone! Building a brand takes an army. You need designers, marketers, accountants, family, friends, clients, etc to support you! Share the tools you use in business. For example, a blogger could share how they edit their photos, what company they use for their web hosting/domain, who takes their photos. While a maid service might share what programs they use to manage clients, how they invoice clients, who they call when they’re having a bad day, etc. Think about technology but also keep in mind those around you.
Hopefully these points help you spark some ideas! Think of what sort of content you would put out in regards to building your brand. Everyone loves stories. Share a little look at your life and what goes on behind closed doors. At the end of the day, we all crave a level of authenticity.
