If you haven’t heard of Rolling Grape yet, it’s okay.. the ball (or grape!) is just starting to roll! The new vineyard opened up earlier this year and is located just 20 minutes South of Peterborough in Bailieboro. It was a pleasure working with Jon, the owner and winemaker at Rolling Grape and my team at Brand Ambition to create this new brand. Our team developed a strong visual brand and website for Rolling Grape which really compliments their product and location. Recently, Jon brought a bottle in for us during a client meeting and the bottle was certainly empty by the end of the meeting.
Their signature wine, Marquette, pictured above was great. The grapes are hand-picked and then aged in French Oak. Flavour notes for their signature red includes black currant and sour cherries, a touch of fruit and a dash of pepper.
What I found really neat about Rolling Grape was the use of cold climate grapes. Some people might wonder, how does anyone grow grapes in Ontario? Well, these grapes are actually grown on the family farm which surrounds the tasting room at the vineyard. Think of regions like Niagara-on-the-Lake or Prince Edward County; it’s totally possible! Jon started planting the first vines in 2012 and now has more than six wines available by the bottle, or by the glass at the winery.
I used to hate wine in general. As I got older, I found myself drawn to more whites than reds but now as I start to drink more regularly, I am noticing my love for red wine is stronger. I’m really excited to make my first trip out to the vineyard to see the rolling hills that inspired his brand textures and to check out the new tasting room and patio!
Check out the upcoming Grape to Glass Harvest event later this month, with food from the culinary students at Fleming College! For more details and to see the website our team built, check out the Rolling Grape website.
